Sr. Barbara Bowe, R.S.C.J., Announcement and Memorial Information
It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Sr. Barbara Bowe, R.S.C.J., Professor of New Testament at Catholic Theological Union, died Sunday afternoon, March 14, at her community’s residence in Palo Alto, California, where she had gone for treatment. She had suffered the past several months with an aggressive malignant brain tumor and died peacefully, surrounded by her family, members of her community and some close friends.
Barbara was a beloved member of CTU’s Faculty, an excellent scholar and a superb teacher. Her gentle and loving presence, her generosity of spirit, and her leadership within the Faculty of CTU will be sorely missed.
Barbara’s funeral Mass will take place Thursday, March 18 at 10:00 a.m. at the Religious of Sacred Heart Community in Atherton, California (140 Valparaiso Avenue, Atherton, CA 94027), with burial in her home region of Albany, New York. A memorial Liturgy for her many friends and colleagues in the Chicago area will be on Tuesday, April 6, at 4:00 p.m. in the CTU Academic and Conference Center, Room 210 B/C.
Let us please keep Barbara, her family, and her community in our prayers at this time of great loss.
May she rest in peace.
Fr. Donald Senior, C.P.
